Protocols for Redefining Rehab & Training

Transient Ischemic Attacks occur when blood flow to the brain is occluded for a short period of time. The patient will experience CVA-like symptoms for a brief period of time, typically not longer than 2 hours in duration. TIAs are considered to be a warning sign that a Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) can happen in the future if nothing is done to prevent it.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Program

Cardio | Boris Gojanovic, MD

HIIT is a frequently applied training method in athletes, leading to improvement in endurance performance and in intermittent (stop-and-go) sports as well. We have used the AlterG AntiGravity Treadmill to design a HIIT program at supramaximal speeds for runners, which would enable them to train at “unknown” speeds for them. “Overspeed” running could help trigger neuromuscular adaptations due to this new type of stimulus.

Personal Weight Loss Program

Obesity | Jacon C Chun, MPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS

Exercise, including walking, can be painful for anyone who is overweight. In fact, obesity and a higher Body Mass Index are risk factors associated with osteoarthritis. Exercise is a proven way to reduce body fat; however, osteoarthritis or other injuries can limit exercise capability because of increased joint pain. By reducing your effective weight during exercise with the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill, you can reduce or eliminate pain you might experience while walking.

Weight Loss Protocol

Obesity | Kristi Bercier, BS, ACSM HFS and Shawn R Simonson, EdD, CSCS, ACSM HFS

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the commonly used criterion to determine overweight and obesity. Adults classified as overweight have a BMI ≥ 25 kg * m-2 and adults classified as obese have a BMI ≥ 30 kg * m-2. Obesity is becoming an increasing concern with estimates that more than 66% of adults are either overweight or obese. Increased BMI’s are related to numerous chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, cancers, and musculoskeletal problems such as osteoarthritis. Obesity is a common risk factor for osteoarthritis. Exercise is a proven way to reduce body fat, however osteoarthritis can limit exercise capability because of increased pain in the affected joints. Reducing an individual’s effective weight during exercise with the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill can reduce or eliminate the osteoarthritis induced pain during walking.

Acute Lumbar Disc Herniation

Spine | Martin D Hoffman, MD, FACSM, FAWM

This protocol for rehabilitation after Acute Lumbar Disc Herniation is designed to provide the rehabilitation professional with a general guideline for patient care with the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill.

FREQUENCY OF ALTERG USE
Up to daily for high-level athletes, or 3-4 times per week for others.
